دخل المعتقلون بسجن العقرب في إضراب شامل ومفتوح عن الطعام، احتجاجا على تعرضهم للمعاملة اللاإنسانية، وتعرضهم للموت البطيء داخل السجن ، والتي أدت إلي وفاة الصحفي / محمود عبدالمجيد داخل إحدي زنازين هذا السجن بسبب البرد الشديد والاهمال الطبي المتعمد وغيرها من صنوف المعاملة القاسية واللاإنسانية ، التي تفضي حتماً إلي الوفاة.
