أعلنت وزارة الداخلية يوم 3 مايو 2020 قتل 18 شخصاً ممن زعمت أنهم ارهابيين ،في تبادل لاطلاق النار ، بمنطقة بئر العبد ، بشمال سيناء، دون أن تذكر أسمائهم أو بيانات أي منهم ،ما يلقي ظلال من الشك حول مصداقية بيان الداخلية ، التي دأبت علي تصفية عدد من المختفين قسرياً عقب كل فشل أمني تمني به . يأتي ذلك بعد يومين من مقتل 10 من أفراد القوات المسلحة - بينهم ضابط - بانفجار عبوة ناسفة بمدرعة كانوا يستقلونها ببئر العبد، وجاء البيان علي النحو التالي:- استمراراً لجهود الوزارة المبذولة فى مجال تتبع وملاحقة العناصر الإرهابية المتورطة فى تنفيذ العمليات الإرهابية التى تستهدف عناصر القوات المسلحة والشرطة ومقدرات الدولة الإقتصادية،فقد توافرت معلومات لقطاع الأمن الوطنى حول اتخاذ مجموعة من العناصر الإرهابية أحد المنازل بمحيط مدينة بئر العبد شمال سيناء وكراً ومرتكزاً للإنطلاق لتنفيذ عملياتهم العدائية.حيث تم استهداف منطقة اختبائها وتبادل إطلاق النيران مع تلك العناصر مما أسفر عن مصرع عدد 18 عنصر وعثر بحوزتهم على 13قطعة سلاح آلى ،و3 عبوة معدة للتفجير،و2 حزام ناسف.تم إتخاذ الإجراءات القانونية وتوالى نيابة أمن الدولة التحقيق.
